"While there is a lot of art [Vietnamese] that is too romantic and overly sweet, there is also some inspiring work that engages its viewers in a more challenging, even spiritual way, as in the work of Nguyen Tan Cuong. Cuong created dynamic and compelling paintings through rich imagery and texture. He makes use of rough, natural fiber (jute) in his work, which gives them an organic quality that is both visual and tangible.
