Coming of age during the Cultural Revolution, Liu Dahong chose to paint that era with a series of meaningful jokes. Adopting a folk and primitive style, and drawing themes from the past and the present, from China and the West and from religion and the secular world, Liu Dahong offered in his paintings a unique examination and interpretation of human and cultural history. These paintings are presented in this catalogue, published on the occasion of the artist’s solo exhibition at the China Club in Hong Kong in 1992. Artist's biography is included.
