Published in conjunction with Liu Xiaodong's solo exhibition at the Guangdong Museum of Art in Guangzhou, China, entitled 'Painting from Life', this monograph focuses on the artist's recent large-scale painting projects. He employed ordinary people such as construction workers, soldiers and prostitutes as models, and executed the works on location in China, Taiwan and Thailand. Featured works include Three Gorges: Displaced Population, Three Gorges: Newly Displaced Population, Eighteen Soldiers between Mainland and Taiwan, and Hotbed.
