Catalogue for the exhibition ‘Making China’ presented by Ethan Cohen Fine Arts, New York, in January 2002. It aimed to address the changes, concerns, and issues in contemporary art in China. Featuring artists from several generations who work with various media, this exhibition ‘attempts to precisely document the process of making the artwork(…) This process tells the story of art and life in today’s China instead of presenting a dry theory. Through the discussion of “making”, the western audience will be able to understand the Chinese and China from a more universal point of view because a “concept” is not forced on them. “Making China” constructs a “Bridge” between people rather than between concepts.’ ― Gao Minglu (curator and scholar)

Accompanying essays, case studies, and artist biographies are included.
