This is the catalogue of the artist's solo exhibition held at Osage Kwun Tong in Hong Kong in fall 2007. In the accompanying essay, Jonathan Thomson states that Miao Xiaochun's practice is based on 'a strategy of appropriating images from reproductions of masterpieces of Western art and re-working them into entirely contemporary contexts' and that such strategy 'addresses challenging issues of authorship and originality, while the works themselves are distinctive and easily recognizable as his own'. The artist's method involves generating a three-dimensional model of his body and substituting his avatar for each of the figures that populate the original painting by using software to manipulate the model. A biography of the artist is included.
