In Miao Xiaochun's first solo exhibition at Walsh Gallery in 2004, he pioneered a technique of digital fusion to allow the viewer the illusion of actually looking around the virtual space he created. In 2006, Miao reinterpreted in cyberspace Michelangelo's Last Judgment. Julie Walsh wrote, 'The idea of not only creating a model based on the earlier artist's image but manipulating that model to replcate all 400 of the original figures beggars the imagination... It is as if via technology Mr. Miao was able to see and experience this ancient masterpiece in an entirely contemporary way.' In addition to the five photographs that refashioned Michelangelo's fresco into a new type of two-dimensional image, Miao has also created a video that led the viewer into the cyberspace of The Last Judgment. Artist biography is provided.
