In describing Michael Joo's installation for the Korean Pavilion, Ronald Jones writes, "it is poetic, it is a complex metaphor, but also a core sample taken from a culture in translation. On February 2, he wrote to me about his plans for the installation saying his work would resemble the display style of the natural history museum, the installation questions both the real and the theoretical by fusing the identities of the sculptures themselves with the space in which they are placed. Using such contradictory themes as inside vs. outside, whole vs. segmented, and natural vs. artificial, the project is meant to evoke the simultaneous, yet shifting nature of simplicity and complexity within our contemporary identities".
