Xie Nanxing has used video since 2001 as part of his process in the creation of paintings.  Xie plays video footage on a monitor and photographs the playback directly from the monitor's screen.  He then transforms the photos into enormous paintings, which are infused with a strange radiance due to his process.  In short, he is putting his subjects through a complex cycle of technical mediations to make us question the realism of our mediated seeing.
