As mentioned in the forward by Susan Lubowsky Talbott (Director of Des Moines Art Centre) and Judith Richards (Executive Director of Independent Curators International,) this exhibition targeted an audience of adolescents, families, and young adults who might be familiar with the commercial aspects of animation, but not with its influences in contemporary art. Fleming discusses the escapism, entertainment and futuristic technology aspects of the Anime, touching upon the Post-War Japanese social circumstances and the rise of escapism. His observations of the participating artists are given based on these aspects. Talbott’s essay focuses on longing for post-human fantasy world of robots and cyborgs which is deeply rooted in Anime. As an individual who witnessed the formation of Anime culture in Japan, Murakami gives a deep analysis on Anime. There is a glossary and artists’ biographies at the end.
