This book was published on the occasion of the awarding of the Nam June Paik Art Center Prize, an international yearly award of 50,000 USD split among the winners. Each of the artists answered the same five questions regarding their artistic practice and relationship to Nam June Paik which are reproduced in the catalogue. The aim of the prize is to reflect on Nam June Paik's unique contribution to the field of artistic practice by recognizing artists that have operated within more embracing visions of technology, questioning unidirectional communication flows, and emphasizing the role of multiple levels of audience participation through practices that bridge together numerous areas, from dance to performance to art.
Two separate juries were convened to select the two Korean and two international artists. For the international jury panel the members were: executive director of Center A in Vancouver, Hank Bull; associate curator at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, Doryun Chong; director of the National Galleries, Berlin, Udo Kittelman; artist and professor at Keizai University, Tokyo, Tetsuo Kogawa; Belgian curator and author Barbara Vanderlinden. The jury for the Korean artists consisted of: artist Jeonghwa Choi, Gangnam University professor Minkyung Kim, curator and critic Geun-jun Lim, artist Seong-Min Hong, and Nam June Paik Art Center Director Youngchul Lee.
The artists selected for this year's inaugural prize are: Eun-me Ahn, Ceal Floyer, Seung-taek Lee, and Robert Adrian X.
