This is the catalogue of Korean comic artist Park Heungyong's solo exhibition of the same title at Arko Art Center from May to August 2014.

'"Park Heungyong Comics: Rhythmic Narratives" is an exhibition presenting the comic book artist by focusing on the unique visuality that is delivered by comics as a medium and its aesthetic achievements, as well as considering the comics industry is a realm of visual culture where diverse forms and subject matters are integrated each other. Park Heungyong has made his debut in the midst of a new movement in modern Korean comics in the 1980s and presented his own unique creativity ability and slowly gained attention. Now, he is one of the major experienced comic book artists in the Korean comic industry and can be said to be one of the major “auteuristic” comic book artists in Korea that is praised for being able to present Korean emotions and feelings in detail and add literary depth to comics. “Auteuristic comics” can be understood to be a genre of comics that refuses to implement the standardized formats that have led the mainstream culture within the market and the set pattern of popular commercialized comics, but attempts to creatively present original and unique themes and formats of the author.
The characters found in his works meet and see the lives of different people in their journey in life and are on the path of self-reflection where they remove themselves from their limitations in status and circumstances and experience enlightenment. He deals with subject matters such as modern history, life, enlightenment, community, etc. and mainly delivers philosophical messages that are sincere and thoughtful about the time period and life. Also, his works that are based on Korean history do not follow the conventional patterns found in existing history-based comics and also do not force critical opinions or new alternatives based on a master narrative.
