This is the catalogue for Paul Chiang's solo exhibition at Cherng Piin Gallery (Taiwan) in 1998. Art critic Shih Juijien has described Paul Chiang as a product of the 'New Abstractionism/New Expressionism' movement in the United States. Shih also writes that '... Chiang uses a palette to convey the silence and mystique of the past, creating images and spaces animated by an expert use of brush style. His paintings have the changing emotional quality of a well-textured essay, and the temperament of a gracefully rstrained song. Though most of his works consist of formally simple elements, they are nonetheless compelling and emotionally rich; simple but not empty.'The paintings presented here are completed within 1997-1998. Artist biography is included.
