Catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition 'Portrait of the Times - 30 Years of Contemporary Art' organised by Power Station of Art in 2013. Taken portraitures as its line of enquiry, the exhibition explores the history of contemporary arts in China since the post-Mao era, through the figurative, expressive and symbolic representations of human beings in visual arts. The exhibition is divided into 5 thematic sections; 'The Specific Individual', 'Body Language', 'The World Within', Images of Society', 'Future Existence', showcases more than 300 works by 115 artists/artist groups. The exhibition also includes 3 special projects: 'Portraits of Dafen', a collection of self-portraits by 60 professional painters from the Dafen Oil Painting Village; 'Memorabilia of 30 Years', a chronological mapping of key events happened in the last 30 years by Xin Zhoukan (New Weekly); 'Arts China', a documentary film comprises series of interview with contemporary artists from China.
Colour plates and artists' biographies are included.
