With the support of the Martell AAA Research Grant, Afghanistan-born NY-based artist, curator and educator Leeza Ahmady traveled to Central Asia in August and September 2005 to conduct this research project that aimed to collect up-to-date materials of the developing art scene in countires including Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan, through interviews with artists and curators from the region.
