This exhibition catalogue was produced on the occasion of the exhibition 'Realism in Asian Art' presented in Singapore from April - July 2010 and in Korea from July - October 2010. This book is the first of two volumes, and includes six essays and a selection of works displayed in the exhibition.

'The six essays in the present volume explore the manifestations of realism in Asian art, relating this art of description to issues of colonialism, world and civil wars, nation building, religion and contemporary culture in Asia. They offer a range of theoretical and historical approaches towards questions such as: What is the place of realism in Asian art histories? What is the 'real'? How do reality and realism relate and differ?' (excerpt from back cover)
