Katie De Tilly give an overview of the contemporary trends in "Shock Art."  Duchamp's Fountain (1917) has paved the way for increasingly disturbing and shocking works, that may now disgust the viewer for different reasons.  Tim Steiner's tattooed back has already been sold to a European collector who will receive his skin with the tattoo of the Virgin Mary upon Steiner's death.  Other examples of  pushing the boundaries of art, the law, and good taste include: Zhu Yu's performance of cooking and eating a human fetus (2000); displays of bodily fluids, feces, a woman with Down's syndrome; art videos of bestiality and sexual activity involving feces and urine.
