A profile of Japanese photographer Suzuki Risaku. His photographs of Kumano, one of Japan's most sacred sites, were compiled into a book in 1998, as his photographs lend themselves to sequential viewing, not stand-alone works. His current concern is with capturing the energy of the landscape at the moment of encounter, rather than the formal concerns of composition and timing. His latest exhibition "Kumano, yuki, sakura" (Kumano, snow, cherry blossoms), took place in September and October of 2007 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.
