Audio Arts, began in 1973 as a sound magazine of recorded interviews with artists as well as a work of art in itself, constitutes a large and wide-ranging sound archive which includes not only the edited tapes that have been published first in cassette and later in CD audio-magazine format, but also the preserved master tapes or CDs of every recording, and a number of 33 rpm vinyl recordings. The archive also contains the printed material that has accompanied every issue, as well as other ephemera such as printed and handwritten records of the project, photographs, letters, cards, sketches, proposals, and audio and video recordings of art events, some initiated by Audio Arts itself.

The present book, Speaking of Art, is by far the most extensive published recordings of artist interviews by Audio Arts. With an introduction by Mel Gooding.
