'Consisting of painted clay sculptures and wall-mounted panels, this was the first solo exhibition of work by Indian artist Sundaribai outside of the South Asian sub-continent. Curated by Professor Jyotindra Jain (JNU, Delhi), it proposed a place for traditional craft within the context of an innovative contemporary art programme.

Sundaribai lives and works in a small village in the Madhya Pradesh region, west of Calcutta. Her art practice spells a clear departure from repetitive tradition. Notable for its vitality and freshness, it builds new narratives from traditional Indian iconography and symbols. Works such as Wedding Procession, Village Well and Couple on a Swing, at once depict mythology in a local setting and mythologise the artist’s own life.' - from Ikon Gallery's website

Includes an essay by Jyotindra Jain.
