Synergies is an event of Fusion: a year of activities at the Australian National University exploring the merging of creative practices and intellectual currents. This book is published in conjunction with the exhibition Synergies held at the ANU Drill Hall Gallery in 2003.
'In this exhibition we wanted to move away from a progressivist viewing of art in contemporary Australia, while still conveying the sense of a loose trajectory, by asking our colleagues to select the work of artists who had somehting to say aobut the relationship between identity, history and place. We have on the whole selected artists whose work has in the recent past been influenced by or has influenced postmodern theories and practices - hybridity, appropriation, collaboration and diasporic cultural experiences.' - extracted from essay by Howard Morphy and Nigel Lendon.
