The reader is a three-volume series summarising the work of the 3rd Guangzhou Triennial Team in the two years prior to the exhibition and provides a comprehensive overview and ideological context of the Triennial. It is comprised of essays by internationally renowned artists and scholars, in addition to transcripts from Forums in Motion, a series of workshops and debates that took place in cultural institutions in London, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Huangshan and Hong Kong, involving over 300 artists, scholars and curators.

Reader II revolves around the unfolding of Forums in Motion between April and July 2008 and the main issues discussed at the Unpacking Projects-in-Progress Workshop (Huangshan) in April and the Anxiety of Creativity and Possible Worlds International Conference (Hong Kong) in July. In Huangshan, 15 art projects-in-progress were analyzed and the major issues of the Triennial were outlined, namely the limits of a post-colonial discourse framework in curatorial practice and criticism. In the Hong Kong meeting, participants discussed the intricate and complicated cultural and existential theoretical contexts that confronted "creativity" in contemporary times, as well as the ways in which contemporary art can cast aside its political and ideological connotations to establish its own definition in the space between everyday life and possible worlds.
