A review for the 51st Venice Biennial by an American artist and writer based in Taipei. According to her, the Biennial 'seems to be divided into two camps: conservatism - such as in promoting national identity and/or white cube presentation - and its opposite, experimentation.'
Some Asian participation are also featured here, as more 'concise, lively and moving' exhibitions: Taiwanese artist Chen Chieh-jen's participation in the international exhibition in the Italian pavilion, the Thai pavilion, the China pavilion, the Singapore pavilion as well as the Taiwan pavilion.
