Zhang Daqian is well-known for his traditional literati ink painting, however his later works are dominated by colour washes and splashes of ink. As said by the author, these works were heavily influenced by the colourful buddhist murals in Dunhuang, where the artist had stayed for three years. The aim of the publication is to present the development of Zhang Daqian's works in relation to the Dunhuang murals. With chronological table of the artist's life and achievements.
