IIzawa Kotaro profiles the photographer Yamada Shuji (b. 1939) who is known for his 1971-1972 "Caravan" project in which he traveled from Hokkaido to Kyushu in a van taking photographs over the course of 18 months. His photographs of the 1970s collected in Nippon-mura are "proto landscapes" of modern Japan.
