This is the first major publication devoted to the work of Vancouver-based artist Tim Lee, published on the occasion of his solo exhibition 'Remakes, Variations (1741–2049)'. In a relatively short time Tim Lee has emerged as one of Canada's most prolific young artists, producing a concise yet rigorous body of art that encompasses multi-channel film and video, sculpture and large-scale photography. His themes are tremendously diverse, invoking the work of other creators and performers, including legendary musicians, visual artists and athletes. Working across an historical arc of cultural achievement and popular entertainment, Lee's work forges creative links between strikingly diverse figures, regularly staging himself as the primary protagonist in plays that conflate significant (and often cathartic) moments in the careers of his subjects.
With essays by Jörg Heiser, Jens Hoffmann, Tim Lee, Monika Szewczyk and Michael Turner. Artist biography included.
