The present catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition of works by the Hiroshima Art Prize recipients, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Hiroshima A-bombing. The artists who have received the Hiroshima Art Prize were Miyake Issey, Robert Rauschenberg, Nancy Spero, Leon Golub, Krzysztof Wodiczko and Daniel Libeskind.
'In purpose, this exhibition did not serve only to assemble past Hiroshima Art Prize recipients and honor their achievements. By gathering, in a place of united vision, people from around the world who share "the spirit of Hiroshima", our hope was that these artists - by their example as individuals striding courageously beyond the tragedy of Hiroshima toward new possibilities of the future - might form a message of peace from Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art. - extracted from curatorial statment by Yuso Takezawa.
Artist statements are included in the catalouge.
