This publication accompanies the traveling exhibition entitled 'The Exploration of the Micropop Imagination in Contemporary Japanese Art' by the Japan Foundation. The traveling exhibition begins its worldwide tour at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (May to July 2009).

Curated by art critic Midori Matsui, the exhibition features 35 works by 14 young Japanese artists active from the latter half of the 1990s throughout the first decade of the 21st century. Coined by Matsui, the term 'Micropop' refers to the unique worldview of artists who rearrange diverse fragments of information and knowledge to give new meanings and uses to things that are outdated and commonplace.

Images of all the exhibited works, installation views at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art as well as an article written by the curator are included in the catalogue.
