A profile of the photographer Irie Taikichi who specialized in Yamato landscapes or Yamatoji. When economic growth began to blight the Nara landscape in the 1960s, Irie tried hard to preserve unspoiled views of the old city by carefully adapting the angles of his shots and exploiting the effects of mist and haze to blur unwanted features.
