A catalogue of Yue Minjun's solo exhibition at Chinese Contemporary (London) in 2000. A leading figure in the Cynical Realist Art movement, developed in the aftermath of the events of 1989 (the demonstrations at Tiananmen Square and the closure of the 'China Avant Garde' exhibition at the China National Gallery), Yue Minjun's laughing faces have not only become his trademark, they also carry implications of mock and superficiality towards the social, political and economic happenings in the country, as Julia Colman mentioned in her essay. Artist biography is included.
