Zhang Wei is a Chinese artist whose early artistic path set off in the time of the Cultural Revolution. His avant-garde development of the abstract paintings in China since 1980 have survived the years by remaining strong and convincingly contemporary. Beginning as a realist in the modernistic tradition of painting-after-nature, Zhang Wei feels the need to respond to his inner creative force and free his painting from the common subjects of still life, land and cityscape.
