Bold+Trendy features a series of paintings of women wearing school uniforms of Chinese female students of the 1920s, who have shaved their heads and are laughing with their mouths wide open. It is obvious that the poses of these young ladies are taken from fashion magazines, TV programmes and commercial movies, as pointed by Zhu Qi in his essay. The reason for the choice of these characteristics is that Liu Fei wants to present a unique psychological reflection on contemporary society: sometimes one finds the picture attractive and exciting, while at times it may provoke feelings of irritation and uncomfort.
