Catalogue of exhibition featuring works from the collection of the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain. The Fondation Cartier has largely contributed to the recognition and distribution of Japanese artists in Europe over the last few years. Helene Kelmachter wrote, 'For this exhibition, it was decided that the accent would be placed upon major works, leading artists, commissioned art work and the most monumental pieces. Thirty-two artists were thus chosen out of the 300 artists represented in the collection... Chosen for their novelty, all of the selected works are being shown in Tokyo with the aim of offering the Japanese public a different view point of the art of our times.' Artist biographies are provided in the catalogue.
