Hsiao Yi has made his name with wooden sculptures of Buddhist figures, animals and Beijing Opera figures. In the series of works presented in this exhibition catalogue, Hsiao brings forth a new subject-matter: the motorcycle in motion. No longer stationary, Hsiao's motorcycle pieces suggest speed and tension, capturing the characteristics of present-day cosmopolitan Taiwan society. At the same time, they can also be seen as a milestone in the artistic path of Hsiao Yi.
