The art of Walasse Ting is synonymous with bold brushworks and very vibrant colours. The paintings presented in this exhibition catalogue intend to show that his black and white paintings, executed in Chinese ink and acrylic on rice paper, are equally captivating in expressing the mood of ‘joie de vivre’. As Chen Long (Deputy Director of the Shanghai Art Museum) writes in the foreword, ‘While Ting’s paintings extol the magnificent exuberance of the universe, his black and white paintings sing in praise of its subtle beauty.’ This publication includes a biography of the artist and a foreword by Alice King.
