Tony McNicol writes about the huge market for Japanese manga. In 2004, 1.4 billion manga magazines and books were sold. The current best-selling serial manga (2005) is Shonen Jump and sells around 3 million copies a week. Digital manga is beging targeted at younger readers, while there are cartoonists such as Hirokane Kenshi who write for an established constituency of older readers.
