This catalogue accompanies an exhibition presented at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, Ithaca in 2005. The first half of the publication discusses the development of modern and contemporary art in Indonesia while the latter section features texts on the participating artists. Curator Amanda Katherine Rath states in the introduction, 'Common to all works in this exhibition is an exploration of the fragility of borders, surfaces, and boundaries within which cracks inevitably expose what has been hidden...They demonstrate that as much as surfaces and boundaries define space, surfaces and boundaries are also psychologically and socially defined and controlled. The artists chosen for this exhibition are conscious of the responsibility they take on as they expose, erase, and disclose.' Bibliography included.
