The oil painter, Ng Po-Wan, was one of the most significant artists in the development of oil painting in both Hong Kong and China in the past century. Having studied Western art in the Philippines, and having taught in art institutions in Hong Kong and the Mainland, Ng played an important part in reopening China’s long closed off art world to the main currents of modern Western art. The present catalogue of Ng Po-wan’s retrospective exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of Art features a variety of his works, including drawings, oil paintings and watercolours of landscapes, still life and figures, executed during 1929-1993. A chronology of the artist is also included.
