This publication is the Doctoral thesis submited by Franziska Koch to Philipps-Universitaet Marburg in 2012. In a transcultural perspective, Koch critically examines 20 large-scaled exhibitions of Chinese avant-garde art held in Western countries since the 1990s, and investigates their relationships with the development of art in China as well as their related agents, institutions and discourses.
