Catalogue of solo exhibition by Yusuf Arakkal at A Gallery, New York in 1998. According to Roberta Hershenson, Yusuf Arakkal 'is known for his masterly evocation of loneliness and strength, and of the many moods overtaking the solitary in his richly textured, large earth-toned canvases. In this series, however, Arakkal moves from the imposing, more heavily worked abstractions of recent years to paintings that emerge from his very soul.' Featured in the present exhibition are paintings from the Ganga series. Depicting the most Indian of subjects - the holy Ganges river - the series took Arakkal nearly eighteen years to realise, however, most paintings from the series were painted during one feverish week in New York when the artist found himself totally charged and filled with energy. Artist biography is provided in the catalogue.
