Review of Roberto Chabet's solo exhibition, 'Pictures in Ordinary Times, titled 'Cheers for Chabet' by Ruben D.F Defeo, published in  Manila Standard on 28 March 1992.

The exhibition, held at Finale Art File, Sunvar Plaza, Makati in March 1992, features two same-titled paintings installed on opposite walls, directly facing each other. The title refers to 'ordinary times', which in liturgical terms connotes the period after the 'strong seasons'.

Excerpt from the review:

'The one-man show, entitled Pictures in Ordinary Times, is a deja vu of sorts where materials are concerned. It is as if Chabet stores the materials of his past works in his bodega, and recycles or reassembles them for future shows like the one going on at Finale. Hence, the usual planks of wood, metal brackets, and other found objects, once again center stage and take a robust bow. The attitude is very contemporary, and therefore very Chabet.

'To treat art as an object which one can readily acquire and keep as a commodity does not appeal tout de suite to Chabet. One issue addressed to in today's art pertains to the objecthood of art. The idea of permanency in art is another. In Chabet's case, these two properties are things of the past.'
