This catalogue was published on the occasion of Ahmad Amin Nazar's exhibition 'The Centre Cannot Hold' at B21 Gallery, Dubai from February to April 2010.

'"To me, breaking taboos is one of the necessities of our age," says Ahmad Amin Nazar. "The culture of the past must face the music of satire and criticism."

A world of mythos is collapsing in Amin Nazar's work. The artist, recognised as a master in Iranian contemporary art, etches deft black lines and kinetic bursts of paint to represent the crumbling away of a noble tradition.

The shadowy effect, created by the careful swathes of acrylic that fill these works on paper, gives us the impression that these characters are being subsumed in fog, or fading away before our eyes. Again, this heightens the sense of a fantastical world just beyond our comprehension. But it points also to Amin Nazar's greater preoccupation—of presenting this world of miniatures and Persian motifs as if it is about to fall apart.' - excerpts from Christopher Lord's essay.
