The catalogue is published on the occasion of the 4th International Biennale in Nagoya, ARTEC '95. Three main categories emerged in ARTEC '95: 1. sculptures and environments emulating life or protolife; 2. portraits and interpretations derived from the world at large; and 3. performances and displays of invented image. The Biennale continued to explore the relationship between art and technology, and seek the growth and transformation in the future by presenting a diverse range of endeavours.

Artists who participated in the International Invitational Exhibition include Pierre Bastien (France), Peter Bosch & Simone Simons (Holland), Marty St, James & Anne Wilson (U.K), Jon Kessler (USA), Knowbotic Research (Germany/ Austria), Hisaya Kojima (Japan), Pattie Maes & Bruce Blumberg (USA), Takuro Osaka (Japan), Christa Sommerer & Laurent Mignonneau (Austria/ France), Pierrick Sorin (France), Maja Spasova (Sweden), Michael Tolson (U.S.A) and Michel Verjux (France).

Other artists from abroad who were shortlisted in the International Open Competition include Mario Canali & Marcello Campione, Luca Caneparo, John Colette, Die Veteranen, Paul Freedlander, Nancy Gorglione, Ian Haig, Christopher Hales, Karin Hansson, Hentschlager & Langheinrich, Werner Klotz, Volker Kuchelmeister & Christian Ziegler, Colin Piepgras, Jochen Schmidt, Kidlat Tahimik, Babis Verkis and Roman Verostko.

Biographies of the artists who participated in the International Invitational Exhibition are included. A pack of 18 loose-leaves featuring ARTEC installations is included.
