Published on the occasion of the exhibition 'Chi Peng, Me, Myself, and I, Photoworks 2003-2010' at the Groninger Museum, Groningen, Netherlands from March to September 2011.

'In his staged, digitally processed photographs, Chinese artist Chi Peng (*1981 in Yantai, Shandong) usually plays the main role himself. The scenarios vary enormously: in the series Sprinting Forward several nude Chi Pengs flee from an attack of red airplanes; while in his Dream series, multiple versions of himself, with dragonfly wings, fly over the ocean, heading for a vague horizon. Chi Peng has found a new visual language that is no longer bound to traditional definitions of word and image, form and place. A product of the one-child policy, he explores themes of adolescence, growing up, and sexual identity against the background of China's unstoppable progress and accompanying feelings of optimism, doubt, insecurity, and isolation. This publication presents Chi Peng's most important works from 2003 to 2010.' (Back cover)
