This catalogue is published in conjunction with the exhibition titled 'Emerging Wave: ASEAN-Korea Contemporary Photo Exhibition 2010' at two venues - Hangaram Art Museum of Seoul Arts Center, Seoul in May, and GoEun Museum of Photography, Busan from June to August. Seeing the prominent growth of contemporary photography in the region since the 2000s, the exhibition showcases works of 27 artists from eleven countries - Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, for the purpose of defining Korean and Southeast Asian photography, and exploring the relationship photography is forming with society. 'This exhibition is also an opportunity to develop an understanding of the artistic infrastructure in the participating countries, a peaceful and sensual approach to addressing any conflicts or feelings of alienation that might exist across borders,' wrote the curator, Hyekyung Shin in her essay.
