Catalogue of solo exhibition by Xu Hong at Art Seasons, Beijing in 2007. Garden is the theme of Xu Hong's newly-painted works. Xu depicts the distress and bewilderment of the middle-class allegorically, and the particular environment reponsible for them. His narratives are usually set in either ancient gardens or the villa of a modern middle-class family. Accoding to Wang Haizhou, Xu Hong probes into the life of the emerging Chinese middle-class from multiple aspects. He reflects on the moral dilemma, the inconsistency in inheriting Chinese tradition and culture, and the individual view of values. The present catalogue includes artist biography and essays by Zhu Qi, Wang Haizhou and Wu Liang.
