This catalogue was produced in conjunction with 'Here+Now: Chinese Artists in New York', a three-part exhibition held at Museum of Chinese in America, New York from September 2009 to March 2010. It presents works by twelve contemporary artists of Chinese heritage, who have established their careers in the global metropolis of New York City since the late 1980s. Each of the three chapters — Visual Memories, Crossing Boundaries, and Towards Transculturalism — reflect different approaches the artists have taken in response to issues related to the specific moment and location of their practice. The exhibition examines the ways in which artists reconnect with Chinese art and cultural tradition after prolonged immersion in the Western art world, cross artistic and cultural boundaries in a multicultural environment, and take part in the trend of transculturalism. Artist statements and biographies are included.
