This is a catalogue of the exhibition 'Living Traditions: Contemporary Art from Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan' which was held from 11 October to 20 November 2008 in Kabul and from 8 February to 21 March 2009 in Islamabad. The exhibition features contemporary art inspired by the cultural heritage of the region. It shows new responses to traditional art like calligraphy and Persian miniature painting. It also includes inventive graphic design and new works of art inspired by Islamic geometric patterns found in textiles, tilework and architecture. The exhibition shows that old traditions are source of inspiration for today's artists.
