In its fourth year, the Silpathorn Awards are awarded by the Culture Ministry's Office of Contemporary Arts and Culture (OCAC) as a means of promoting contemporary Thai art on the international scene. Three winners came from the field of visual arts: conceptual/installation artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, female artist Pinaree Sanpitak and activist artist Vasan Sitthiket. Other winners included filmmaker Thunska Pansittivorakul, writer Siriworn Kaewkan, composer Narong Prangcharoen, and performer Nimit Pipithkul.
