Exhibition catalogue to the show, 'Mutation', featuring a selection of realist paintings by a group of Indonesian artists and shown as part of the Indonesia-Japan Friendship Festival. This particular exhibition, described as "Indonesia's return gift to the Japanese people" (for sponsoring the original festival in Indonesia in 1995) by Asao Shinichiro (President of The Japan Foundation), was held at the Japan Foundation Asia Center, between 23 Aug - 7 Sept, 1997. As part of an ongoing 'dialogue' between Japan and Indonesia, 'Mutation' aims to facilitate understanding of Indonesian photo-realist paintings (only one aspect of Contemporary Indonesian Art) which is directly linked with social-cultural changes, to a Japanese audience. Includes essays by Jim Supangkat and Masahiro Ushiroshoji, accompanying text to each artist works, with biographies of the artists. Tri-lingual: English, Japanese and Indonesian.
