This is a monograph from the solo exhibition New Generation: recent paintings by Liu Jian at the Alisan Fine Arts Gallery in Hong Kong in 1989. Liu's works in that exhibition were mostly Chinese ink and acrylic paintings that showed how Liu was deeply influenced by the giants of Abstract Expressionism such as Zao Wouki, de Kooning, Motherwell and Rothko. An introduction by He Zhenzhi, professor and senior art critic in Shanghai, China is included.
